ADVICE FOR HOMEWORK.
|
Establish a routine and schedule
It is best for your children to do their homework as early as possible in order to spend the day doing other activities they like so that he/she will become more responsible for keeping to schedules in the future.
|
Limit distractions
Help your children with their school work and do not make unnecessary interruptions with phone calls, television, etc.
|
Help your child to divide up homework
Most of the time, children do not know where to start and it is better, as a parent, to help them to divide homework into sections and to do the most important and difficult first so that the others are then easier to do.
|
Remind your children of the importance of cleanliness.
While your children do their homework, do not allow them to eat or drink anything; tell them to wait until they have finished.
|
Check progress and give advice.
This does not mean that you do the homework; check your children’s progress and if they your help, give advice.
|
Motivate your children to do homework
If your children are distracted, stay and read for a little while with them and help with the first exercise, or ask them to explain the homework to you and then let them continue with it.
|
Motivate your children to finish homework
If your children ask you for something while doing homework, do not say no; just explain that they have to finish the homework first in order to get what they want afterwards.
|
Motivate your children while doing homework
When your children get distracted, remind them of what they asked you for and this will help them to continue.
|
Congratulate your children when they make a lot of effort
Your children learn better when you explain their mistakes and help to correct them, and not when you scold them for making mistakes.
|
It is not your responsibility to correct your children’s homework
Do not let your children completely rely on you for making their homework perfect; you must let them learn from their mistakes.
|
|
You must also remember to;
Keep in contact with your child’s teacher
Talk to the teacher about your child’s behavior at home, the time taken to do homework and the way in which you help your child with their homework, so that the teacher can tell you how your child is during class.
Help your child to prepare for exams
This is the hardest part of studying and requires the most concentration; help your child by giving small tests so that he/she understands what he/she is studying and then let him/her continue studying alone.
Make sure your child carries the homework in his/her notebook or backpack
Most of the time when a child does homework which takes a long time, he/she begins other activities afterward and forgets to put the homework away in his/her backpack; you should always remind your child that before beginning another activity or before going to bed he/she should have everything ready for the next day or that they do not forget to take anything to school.
Homework that takes a long time
When your child has homework that will take many days to complete, ask him/her for a list of criteria and the date it needs to be handed in so that you and your child can make a work plan together and divide up the activities to be completed and on what days to avoid leaving it to the last minute.
